Travels with our Earthroamer

This is the home page of travels we undertook with our EarthRoamer.

After completing The Americas adventure we mistakenly believed that we would not undertake any more vehicle based travel outside North America and with that in mind, in 2011 just after OverlandExpo, we purchased a used 2008 Earthroamer.

However things change, and not long after that purchase, plans for an around the world adventure emerged.

We quickly determined that the Earthroamer, and particularly the Ford chassis, was not a suitable vehicle for such an adventure and set about sourcing a different vehicle; our beloved Unimog.

What then would we do with the Earthroamer?

As it turned out we used the Earthroamer for some explorations of the US and Canada in the period before we set off round the world, during periodic returns to the US for financial and heath checks, and during 2016 when I was unable to drive the Unimog due to a leg injury.

These explorations in the Earthroamer have been recorded as a separate Adventure the details of which can be found by following the menu at the top of this page.

The doomed trip II

Posted Sunday 26th Feb, 2017

Tuesday morning 21st Feb we departed Rancho Colina at 7:00 am to make our way to Dyers RV Repair in San Luis Obispo. Kathy and Rick Howe followed us in their car just to make sure we had support if anything unpleasant happened along the way; like that bolt finally falling out and the camper body being set somewhat adrift from the chassis. However no disasters ensued and we arrived at Dyers a little before they opened.

A doomed trip

Posted Wednesday 1st Feb, 2017

After returning from Lima we spent a little while at our house in WA catching up on business and imposing ourselves on our friend Todd who rents our house from us. Not wanting to outstay our welcome we decided that we would take our trusty Earthroamer south for the month of Feb with the goal of escaping from the rain and snow of Washington and also give Todd a break from us.
